Special Opportunities
Take advantage of all the special opportunities in Concordia's music department, such as studying abroad and community activities and outreach.
At Concordia, you will learn about music history, theory, world music, and sing or play in one of our ensembles.
Choosing music as a major or minor is your first step toward a variety of options, including teaching music, pursuing grad school in music performance, or can be a way to display your creative expression while pursuing a second degree in another field.
While earning a Bachelor of Music degree, about two-thirds of your coursework will be in music. While some of the liberal arts requirements are waived for Bachelor of Music students, you'll still have the opportunity to take a few classes outside of the music department to ensure a well-rounded education. An audition is required for acceptance into the Bachelor of Music program. Please contact Kristen Hatfield if you have questions about the audition process.
While earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, you will major in music with all of the benefits of a liberal arts education. Approximately one-third of your coursework will be in music, with the rest fulfilling the core liberal arts requirements, including a minor area of study if you choose. An audition is required for acceptance into the Bachelor of Arts music education program, but the Bachelor of Arts general music degree does not require an audition.
While earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, you will major in music and business entrepreneurship with all of the benefits of a liberal arts education. Students seeking this new major will earn 26 credits in musicianship (8 credits of which also fulfill core requirements), 16 credits in performance/music electives, and 31 credits in business and entrepreneurship courses, with the rest fulfilling the core liberal arts requirements.
Similar to our general music major, our music minors are designed to accompany other Bachelor of Arts majors at Concordia.
The requirements for music minors include 26 credits and encompass music studies, applied lessons, and ensemble participation. In addition, 12 unique credits in the area of church music studies are needed for the church music minor. Music majors may also enroll in the church music minor.
