Programs of Study

Minor in Women's and Gender Studies

All women’s and gender studies students take “Women’s and Gender Studies: Frameworks and Issues,” which provides the theoretical structure with which to analyze gender issues alongside race, ethnicity, class and sexuality. The other courses to complete the minor are up to you.

Concordia offers 15 courses on a regular basis and other courses across campus can be requested to count toward the minor.

Career

A women's and gender studies minor pairs strongly with a number of majors, preparing students for a range of fields, from local activism to global anthropological study.

All of our recent grads have made incredible strides toward improving people’s lives and well-being. Some are in grad school for couple and family therapy or gender studies. Others hit the job market right away and are working for the Ronald McDonald House Charities or for the Au Pair in America program.

Regardless of your life goals, a minor in women’s and gender studies will give you a unique and fresh perspective on the people you meet and the situations you encounter.

Opportunities to Make a Difference

As a women's and gender studies minor, you'll have ample opportunities to make a difference in your community.

Advance your knowledge by attending one of the many conferences held in the Fargo-Moorhead area, including the Red River Valley Women’s Studies Conference where faculty and students frequently present a paper or sit on a panel.

The women’s and gender studies program offers a paid internship every year or you can volunteer at the YWCA, Planned Parenthood or the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center.

Women’s and gender studies students also work closely with the Sexuality and Gender Alliance student organization and the International Community, helping with events like Safe Space Training.
