What is your dream job after college and how do you want to make an impact?
My dream job after Concordia is to teach English in a high school, while also graphic designing for small businesses. When teaching, I hope to expand my future student’s knowledge on the injustices of the world and how we can create positive change for everyone. I will teach from the works of underrepresented communities so my students can be aware of the diverse world we live in. Concordia’s emphasis on being responsibly engaged in the world is helping me reach this future goal. I am expanding my global understanding, character, and compassion, through the help of Concordia’s curriculum and staff.
What year are you here at Concordia?
I’m a first-year student and will graduate in 2025.
What are you involved in on campus? What kind of work do you want to be known for?
I am involved in Cobbers In Action, Symphonia Orchestra, and Concordia Outdoor Recreation Club. I want to be known for the positive influence I had on my Cobber community. Creating an environment everywhere I go where those surrounding me feel accepted and heard is what I value most in life, and I hope that is how my peers remember me.
What is your favorite Cobber tradition and why? What stories do you have to share about that tradition?
Though I am a first-year student and haven’t gotten the chance to experience all Cobber traditions, Homecoming week is so far my favorite. The atmosphere that surrounds the week of Homecoming is uplifting and exciting. There is always something going on during Homecoming week that students get to take part in. This year, during the Johnny Holmes concert, one of my friends got to go on stage and sing with the band!
Tell us your favorite stop on tour and why it's your favorite. Why do you connect with the space?
My favorite stop on tour is the bell tower because it is not only the heart of campus, but it’s where I made many childhood memories. Growing up in Moorhead, I went to Concordia for theatre camps every summer and my friends and I would always play theatre games and eat near the bell tower. So now, as a first-year at Concordia, when I get to show prospective students this area I always think back at how much fun I had at Concordia then as a young teenager and now as a student.
Words of wisdom for prospective students?
Don’t be ashamed when you feel unaware of what your future holds. We are all learning and growing together and college is a place to help you find your greatest passions, not a place to intimidate you about future plans. Keep an open mind and remember that it is OK to not know what your next step is, but remind yourself that there are people that want to help you. If you need direction or advice, reach out. Forming connections and engaging with future professors or advisors will always help because they are here to help you exceed. You got this!
Why did you choose Concordia? Was there a defining moment in your college search process?
I chose Concordia because I felt a sense of community and awareness. Concordia strives to form a positive and inclusive community, which helped me feel a sense of belonging even before I arrived on campus. I also love the opportunities we are given as students to expand our global knowledge, from the wide range of study abroad trips to the variety of clubs offered here. There is a place to learn and gain valuable experiences outside and in the classroom.
