What is your dream job after college and how do you want to make an impact?
I hope to one day become a dentist, specifically a pediatric dentist. My goal is to advocate and educate parents on proper oral hygiene for their children and make a positive impact on each child’s experience with the dentist so they continue good oral hygiene habits throughout their lives. I also hope to volunteer for (or start) a low-income emergency dental clinic, as I currently volunteer for one in the Fargo-Moorhead area and have seen the profound impact it has had on our community.
What year are you here at Concordia?
I am a junior and will be graduating in 2023.
What are you involved in on campus? What kind of work do you want to be known for?
I am involved in multiple organizations and activities on campus. Some of them include Operation Smile, Sigma Zeta Honor Society, Pre-Dental Club, Health Professions Interest Club, Student Government Association, and Orientation. I want to be known for doing meaningful and impactful work all around campus. Being involved in multiple areas of campus has helped me grow in many ways and Concordia provides students with so many opportunities to become responsibly engaged in the world.
What is your favorite Cobber tradition and why? What stories do you have to share about that tradition?
My favorite Cobber tradition is definitely Orientation Week. The first week of campus can be scary, but Concordia makes it so much fun. I especially liked getting to know my Clubbies, as some of them are my best friends to this day (and one of them is even my girlfriend!).
Tell us your favorite stop on tour and why it's your favorite. Why do you connect with the space?
My favorite stop on tours is the Integrated Science Center. I spend a lot of my time each day in that building and have grown close to the faculty and my classmates, which makes the building feel like home. Being a STEM major, I have seen myself grow tremendously since freshman year in that building and I am excited to see myself continue to grow all the way up until graduation.
Words of wisdom for prospective students?
My one word of wisdom for prospective students is to get out of your comfort zone, no matter where you end up in life. Get involved on campus, meet new people, talk to that professor, etc. All of these things seem uncomfortable to most at first, but I promise you will never regret pushing yourself to do the most in college.
Why did you choose Concordia? Was there a defining moment in your college search process?
I chose Concordia because it immediately felt like home. The small campus, the welcoming nature, and the smiling faces all contributed to this. Concordia provides so many amazing opportunities for students and helps guide them along the way. My defining moment in my college search process was when I met with a science professor during my visit. They were welcoming, engaging, and I felt like they genuinely cared about me as a person, not just another high school student on a campus tour.
