Violinist Dr. Dina Maria Neglia-Khachatryan enjoys a multifaceted musical career dedicated equally to teaching, performance, and scholarship.
Dr. Neglia-Khachatryan has served as part of the faculty at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, Vincennes University, North Dakota State University, and currently serves on the faculty of Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, where she teaches violin and viola, chamber music, as well as various classroom courses and ensembles. She is the newly appointed director of Concordia College’s Symphonia Orchestra. She also serves on faculty at the North Star Chamber Music Festival.
As a performer, Dr. Neglia-Khachatryan has concertized extensively as a chamber musician around the world. She has performed nearly all the major Violin and Piano Sonatas of the standard repertoire with her husband, Dr. Grigor Khachatryan, who serves as the Associate Professor of Piano at Concordia College. She has been featured on MPR Classical Radio and has served as the concertmaster of many orchestras throughout her career. In the Fargo-Moorhead area, she can be found performing in productions of the F-M opera and F-M ballet. Other notable concerts include performances by invitation for Former President George W. Bush and Former Vice President Dick Cheney, and a special performance by invitation of the Sindaco di Enna for the region of Castrogiovanni, Sicily celebrating the life’s work of her great-uncle, renowned Sicilian composer, Francesco Paolo Neglia.
Dr. Neglia-Khachatryan’s dissertation on the subject of Schumann’s neglected violin concerto and its theoretical analysis was the first of its kind to be published in the English language worldwide. She is particularly interested in Schumann’s musical language and how it pertains to music of the violin repertoire.
Dr. Neglia-Khachatryan earned her Doctorate in Violin Performance at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where she also obtained an academic minor in Music History and Literature. She received her graduate degree in Violin Performance from The University of Michigan and her undergraduate degree from Baylor University in Violin Performance along with concentrations in Vocal Performance and Italian Literature. Her principal teachers include Maria Neglia, Bruce Berg, Yehonatan Berick, and Kevork Mardirossian.
