Background
Dr. Ellig joined the faculty at Concordia College in 1982 after previously teaching at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. His teaching interests are wide ranging and include introductory sociology, research methods/statistics, social inequality (including racial/ethnic exclusion), life course sociology, globalization, and development. He developed and led travel seminars to Europe and South Africa focusing on social exclusion and taught Summer School Abroad courses in South Africa and Europe focusing on social inequality, global studies, and development.
Dr. Ellig is interested in the connections between globalization, development, and social exclusion. His most recent scholarship addresses social exclusion issues that are challenging South Africa as it seeks to become a more inclusive society. He has also published in the areas of gerontology and global learning outcomes.
In his spare time, Dr. Ellig enjoys being a news junkie, reading, cooking, traveling, and taking walks with his partner, Donna. Teaching is one of the most important activities in his life, and he looks forward to welcoming new students to campus and getting to know them.
