Dr. Charles Frederick Grose, grand-nephew of Ingebrikt Frederick Grose, and other members of the Grose family wish to commemorate the critical early leadership of I. F. Grose who traveled the long journey from southern Minnesota to serve as Concordia College's first president at the young age of 29. Grose earned both a bachelor's and master's degree from Luther College. Grose served as president from 1891 to 1893 and continued to serve the college in other capacities until 1897. Grose spent the majority of the remainder of his remarkable career at St. Olaf College. Over his many years on the two campuses, Grose served as a professor in German, history, religion, literature and composition. He was a true classicist who knew both Latin and Greek.

The purpose of the I. F. Grose Memorial Lecture in Classical Studies Endowed Fund is to provide an annual lecture in Classical Studies which serves to enrich the work of future faculty and students devoted to Classical scholarship.
