DisruptHR, the rebellious future of HR, is an information exchange designed to energize, inform, and empower leaders in the HR field and beyond. At the events, 14 speakers get five minutes each to teach the audience something. Disrupt was founded in 2013 by professional speaker Jennifer McClure in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was started on the belief that how we’ve approached people and talent in the past won’t be the best way to approach them in the future.
“I’m thrilled to have been selected to be a part of DisruptHR this year,” Andrick said. “The format of the talks is unique and presents the speakers with the challenge of providing valuable information in a short time frame while also being engaging.”
Andrick was contacted by a former colleague who encouraged him to consider submitting a pitch to speak at the DisruptHR event Oct. 13 at the Armory Event Center in Moorhead. Andrick will speak on the topic of hidden curriculum and mentoring.
DisruptHR partners with Fargo INC! and Andrick was featured along with other speakers in an issue of Fargo INC! magazine. When interviewed by the magazine about the upcoming event, Andrick explained that every organization has a hidden curriculum: “The norms, values, and expectations that govern our cultures are often unwritten or buried yet expected to be upheld. If you have ever heard a colleague ask in frustration, ‘How do they not know!?’, that can be an indication that someone has not unlocked the hidden curriculum. Mentorship for new employees, or in my case new students, can be a key component to helping build understanding, grow social capital and create a sense of belonging.”
Andrick also said he loves working with college students who come in with varied backgrounds, support systems, and understandings of how to navigate an organization’s culture.
“I have never given a talk like this before and I am excited for the opportunity,” Andrick added.
