People come from across the country to see the Concordia Christmas Concerts. This year, on Carol (Angstman) ’63 and Ken Maul’s flight from Denver the seats right around them were filled with people going to the concert. It was the Mauls’ second half of their journey from Fresno, Calif. The Mauls have been coming back for the concerts as frequently as possible for the past 15 years. Carol sang in the Chapel Choir as a student and has an affinity for the college and the music program.
“We come to the concerts because we appreciate the beautiful, beautiful music and the pageantry,” she said. “We love René Clausen, the music department, The Concordia Choir, and all of the choirs and orchestra.”
Kent and Nancy Blochberger of Fort Smith, Ark., have a couple of reasons to fly north for the concerts. The first is Kent’s love of choral music. A singer himself, he had to perform with the Fort Smith Chorale the night before he and his wife flew to Fargo for the concerts.
“Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of hearing The Concordia Choir when they were here in Fort Smith and they just captivated me,” he said. “The tradition and excellence of the choir are unsurpassed.”
His second reason is Concordia student Breck Cogswell ’18, also from Fort Smith, is performing in the concert and Kent told her he would come to hear her sing. It’s the second time the Blochbergers have attended the concert and Kent knows they won’t be disappointed.
“It was one of the best experiences of the Christmas season I’ve ever had,” he said.
