Sophomore Grace Halvorson was invited to introduce Minnesota’s Gov. Tim Walz at a Moorhead event to promote early voting, which started Sept. 23 in Minnesota.
In her speech, the Moorhead High School graduate stressed how important the option of early voting was for her as a student balancing classes and extracurriculars.
“Voting is a privilege and a responsibility. By voting when it fits into my schedule, I can make sure my vote will be counted,” Halvorson told the audience.
As a member of the Student Government Association, Halvorson was one of several students who helped get classmates educated about the voting process during Concordia’s symposium on “Engaged Citizenship.” She estimated 100 students registered to vote in Minnesota at the event.
"A central discussion in my classes this year has been about engaged citizenship, so my friends and I have been talking a lot about how to vote, whether here or in our home districts," she said. "We've been working hard to ensure everyone feels informed and excited."
