Concordia Adds Post Baccalaureate Premedical Program

Concordia is launching a new program for professionals who currently have a degree but would like to go into the medical field.

The Post Baccalaureate Premedical Program pulls together all the courses for medical school preparation in a one-year program preparing college graduates to be successful in the medical admission exam, MCAT. Coursework includes biology, chemistry and physics, and their corresponding labs.

Dr. Julie Rutherford, Concordia’s health professions director, says this program allows students to complete needed courses but also of great value is the access to faculty expertise for the medical school application process.

“The program will incorporate preparation sessions that will guide students through application requirements, and will encourage work and volunteer opportunities that will allow students to fully test their commitment to a career in medicine,” Rutherford says. “Our program will provide advice and support beyond completion of the program, including a comprehensive committee evaluation at the time of application to medical schools.”

The program is created on the foundation of the college’s highly successful undergraduate premed program. Applications are now being accepted for this new program, which will begin in June 2019. Applicants must have had a 3.2 minimum undergraduate GPA from an accredited four-year institution and have taken pre-calculus. Only 12 students will be accepted to this program which has the added benefit of Concordia’s Healthcare Professional Advisory Committee assisting with the medical school application process.
