Craft Elected LWR Board Chair, Named to AACU Board

President William Craft was recently elected chair of the Lutheran World Relief Board of Directors and named to the board of directors for the Association of American Colleges and Universities.

Lutheran World Relief is an international humanitarian organization. Craft became an LWR board member in January 2013. In February 2015, he and the board traveled to Honduras to observe LWR’s work in that region. He was elected chair during the February LWR board meeting in Phoenix.

"We are honored and excited to have Dr. Craft as our new chair," says Daniel Speckhard, LWR president and CEO. "His leadership, experience and his passion for the work of Lutheran World Relief will serve us well as we seek to expand our impact in alleviating poverty, injustice and human suffering around the world."

Craft was also one of seven new directors appointed to the Association of American Colleges and Universities board in January.

AAC&U is the leading national association concerned with the quality, vitality, and public standing of undergraduate liberal education. Its members are committed to extending the advantages of a liberal education to all students, regardless of academic specialization or intended career.

“The Association of American Colleges and Universities seeks to make liberal education and inclusive excellence the foundation for higher education in the United States and across the globe,” Craft says. “I am honored to join its board of directors, bringing the achievements of Concordia’s liberal arts tradition and practice to the national and international community."

Craft’s work with AAC&U began early in his faculty career, as a mentor in its Cultural Legacies program to diversify the American college curriculum. It has continued through his current service as chair of the Wye Seminar Council, a partnership of AAC&U and the Aspen Institute.
