Dedicated in front of more than 150 students, faculty, staff and community members on Jan. 12, the building honors former president Doug Hastad ’71 and his wife, Nancy (Seljevold) ’72, for their 11 years of service and support to the school and community. It officially welcomed students with the start of the spring semester Jan. 22.
Doug and Nancy Hastad Hall will house the nursing, physics/engineering and exercise science programs, as well as provide space for other academic classroom needs.
“Doug and Nancy Hastad Hall will provide all faculty with the ability to create technology-infused teaching and learning environments that can enhance student engagement and promote their intellectual curiosity and creativity,” said Carroll University President Cindy Gnadinger.
Hastad thanked the many donors for their generosity and support during his 11-year tenure as president.
“You don’t see bricks and mortar, but you see a period of time that we were able to be part of transforming this campus,” he said.
The building also boasts the first green roof in Waukesha, Wis. Carroll is the first four-year institution of higher education in the state chartered by the Wisconsin Territory Legislature in 1846 – two years before Wisconsin became a state.
Hastad retired as president of Carroll University in June 2017. Prior to arriving at Carroll in 2006, Hastad served as chancellor at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse for 17 years. In total, he spent 40 years in higher education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from Concordia.
