5 Reasons to Attend Family Weekend

I can think of a hundred reasons you should attend Family Weekend, but for the sake of everyone’s sanity I’ve listed just 5 below:

1. It's Entertaining

Join us Friday night for laugh out loud fun with improv troupe Mission Improvable. Saturday afternoon you’re invited to the Family Festival on the north lawn in front of Bishop Whipple. Come and enjoy lunch, music, a service project, a scavenger hunt, and games for all ages. The fun continues into Saturday night’s Showcase. It is no secret that Cobbers are talented and at Family Weekend, you will get to see some of that talent on display.

2. It's Educational

One of my favorite things about Family Weekend is families to engaging in educational opportunities on campus. Saturday morning, you will have the chance to participate in talks given by five different Concordia professors. These sessions will be similar to what students experience on a daily basis in classes. (When my family attended Family Weekend with my sister in 2012, it was a Family College talk that made we want to go to Concordia!) Saturday afternoon, wander through the Family Expo to see organizations and resources that your student can take advantage of.

3. It Builds Community

Concordia’s great sense of community makes a student’s experience here special. Join us in All-Campus Worship on Sunday morning for the conclusion of Family Weekend. This unique service is one of my favorites on campus and is one of the largest worship services that Concordia hosts! Equally as exciting is Family Weekend Chapel on Friday morning. Join us for an informal community worship service as we hear music by the Concordia Chapel Choir and a message from me, your Family Weekend Chair!

4. It's Delicious

College students love to eat and are very excited to share our love of food with our families! We kick off Saturday with our Family Weekend Breakfast. Join us for a delicious and filling breakfast as a member of our Cobber family. You’ll also have the opportunity to hear from President Craft and the Parents Council and view the student-produced Family Weekend video. Later in the day, cool down from the Family Festival fun with an Ice Cream Social in the Centrum. This will be an opportunity to mingle with Concordia faculty as you enjoy one of my favorite foods: ice cream.

5. Because Cobbers and Cobber families are a-MAIZE-ing

I truly believe that Cobbers have the best families. In addition to having an a-MAIZE-ing campus family, we all come from unique and a-MAIZE-ing families that help us bring our own individual strengths to campus. People ask me what my favorite part of being a Cobber is and I always have the same answer: the families. In my time as a Cobber, I’ve become part of an a-MAIZE-ing community and family that is truly irreplaceable.
