7 Summer Events to Explore
The Fargo-Moorhead area is vibrant and full of activities to enjoy the outdoors all summer long.
Whether it’s strolling through the Red River Market or kayaking down the Red River, there is something for everyone. Here are just some of the awesome summer events to look forward to in the F-M community.
Moorhead Farmers Market
When: 3:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, June 18-Sept. 24
Where: Ace Hardware parking lot, 20 6th St. S. (New location for 2019!)
Cost: Free
Find the freshest local produce at the Moorhead Farmers Market! There will be a wide selection of products such as fresh vegetables, fruit, baked goods, honey, jams, pet products, and handcrafted items. Thinking of grabbing a bite? There will also be food trucks. Shop, eat, and listen to live music at the Moorhead Farmers Market.
River Paddling Excursions
When: 6-8 p.m. June 26, July 17, and Aug. 21
Where: Hjemkomst Landing, 202 1st Ave. N., Moorhead
Cost: $10/person if you own your own vessel; $15/person for canoe/kayak rental
This summer, Moorhead Parks and Recreation and River Keepers are hosting River Paddling Excursions at the landing near the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead. If you enjoy canoeing or kayaking, this is a must-attend activity. Register early, as space is limited. Arrive at 5:30 p.m. to sign in and get your equipment. Paddle down the Red River and learn more about it at the same time.
Red River Market
When: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays, July 13-Oct. 26
Where: 63 5th St. N., Fargo (New location for 2019!)
Cost: Free
The Red River Market is North Dakota’s largest farmers market. Since it began in 2015, Saturdays in Fargo have never been the same. Home to live music, educational cooking demonstrations, cultural performances, and children’s activities, everyone can find something to enjoy at the Red River Market.
Trollwood Performing Art School’s Mainstage Musical
When: 8:30 p.m. July 17-20 and 24-27
Where: Trollwood at Bluestem, 801 50th Ave., SW, Moorhead
Cost: Adults $15; Students w/ID and Seniors $13; Children ages 5-10 $10; children 5 and under free
This summer, Trollwood Performing Arts School is bringing a classic Disney film to the Bluestem Amphitheater. “Freaky Friday” is the story of a mother and daughter who magically swap bodies and, as a result, learn what life is like in each other’s shoes. Filled with numerous positive messages for every age, this humorous musical will entertain all who attend.
Downtown Fargo Street Fair
When: 10 a.m.-9 p.m. July 18-19 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 20
Where: North Broadway, Fargo
Cost: Free
Reaching its 44th year, the Downtown Fargo Street Fair was voted the best annual non-sporting event in the Red River Valley. For three days, visitors come from across the region to enjoy art, crafts, music, and food from a variety of vendors. The street fair is the place for shopping, eating, and enjoying the summer with your friends and family.
Fargo Blues Festival
When: 2 p.m. Friday, July 26, and noon Saturday, July 27
Where: Newman Outdoor Field, 1515 15th Ave. N., Fargo
Cost: $30/day
The Fargo Blues Festival is a two-day event with 12 world-class bands that will blow you away. Held at Newman Outdoor Field, this nationally recognized blues festival is now in its 24th year and home to 40 different vendors with great food, drinks, and gifts. With nearby camping and hotels, you are set for both an incredible musical and lodging experience.
Fargo-Moorhead Pride Parade
When: 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11
Where: Downtown Fargo-Moorhead
Cost: Free
Fargo-Moorhead businesses, organizations, and individuals are welcome to participate in the annual Pride Parade, which wraps up a week of events. Participants create floats and signs, dress in rainbow colors, and toss candy (and glitter) to show their support of the LBGTQ+ community.
