Environmental Humanities

ENVIRONMENTAL & SUSTAINABILITY STUDIES (Environmental Humanities Concentration)

Since a number of the requirements in the interdisciplinary Environmental and Sustainability Studies program also count as core curricular requirements, students and advisors should strategize how they navigate the core requirements. The Math (K) requirement can be met by taking Math 205, which counts in the Science and Sustainability Studies concentrations. The course is also recommended for students in other concentrations. In addition, the following core requirement areas can be met by courses offered in the program:  N, S, R, H, U, G, J, and PEAK.

If students are unable to get into ENVR 103 in the Fall, they should take it in the Spring. In Spring Semester, they should take ENVR 103 if not taken in the Fall. If ENVR 103 was taken, students should consider BUS 201 or SOC 217.

Finance

First year finance students are required to complete MATH 121 - Calculus.  If students have not taken a pre-calculus course previously, they should enroll in MATH 110 - Pre-Calculus prior to taking MATH 121 as required.

Finance students should consider enrolling in DATA 200 if they have an ACT score of 24+ or if they have taken college algebra or pre-calculus in high school.

First year finance students will be enrolled in BUSN 399.  This is not a class to attend, but rather a series of three (3) proficiency exams in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) that must be taken and passed by the end of the third semester of attendance.  Complete information is available in the Offutt School of Business office, Grant 214.

Food / Nutrition / Dietetics

Concordia College is the only ELCA college with an accredited undergraduate program in dietetics. Students majoring in nutrition and dietetics will receive extensive support to secure a position in a dietetic internship and graduate program, which are required to become a registered dietitian nutritionist.

Departmental Notes:

1. If a student is deciding between registering as a Nutrition/Dietetics major or another discipline, it is very important they enroll in CHEM 127 (General Chemistry I) or BIOL 121 (Cell Biology) in fall semester. It prevents future schedule conflicts.

2. It is especially important if a student is considering a double major in Nutrition/Dietetics and Exercise Science they enroll in CHEM 127 (General Chemistry I) or BIOL 121 (Cell Biology) in fall semester to prevent later schedule conflicts.

3. If a student is interested in a health profession but does not know which health profession, they may want to explore the opportunities in Nutrition and Dietetics. The need for nutrition professionals is growing faster than other health professions and the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a shortage of nutrition professionals in the near future.

4. Nutrition and Dietetics is a great complementary major or minor to such majors as Exercise Science, Nursing, Health and Physical Education, and Pre-health Professions (e.g., pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-chiropractic, pre-physical therapy, etc.)

5. If students have questions about the program, they are welcome to reach out to a Nutrition and Dietetics faculty member.
