Pre-Med

If first-year students do not bring in college credit for Calculus, they can take this particular Math course at a later time, as it is not on the MCAT.

For that reason, Pre-Med advisor, Dr. Julie Rutherford, recommends PSYC 111 (Introductory Psychology) in the spring semester or SOC 111 (Human Society), since both of those courses/topics are MCAT material.

Psychology

If a student transfers in PSYC 111, the student is advised to take either PSYC 206 or PSYC 227 in the fall semester and/or PSYC 218 or PSYC 345 in the spring semester.  These courses are appropriate for first or second year students.  Other Psychology courses should be taken during the junior or senior year.

Religion

Biblical Hebrew is a World Language option.  The second semester (REL 212) would satisfy the World Language requirement.  Both semesters of Biblical Hebrew would apply to the Major.  It is offered alternating years.  (Next offered 2024-2025.)  Students could delay their language study to the second year if they want to take Hebrew and that is the year it is offered.

Students typically take REL 200 in their sophomore year because REL 200 draws on the oral and written skills developed and practiced in IOC 100 and IWC 100.  REL 200 is the foundational course required for most religion courses offered. If a Religion Major wants to begin their course of study in their sophomore year and the courses are at the posted capacity before they can register, they should contact the Religion Department chair and complete an override request form.

Social Work

The social work program at Concordia is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education which means social work graduates are eligible for social work licensure, which is required for most social work jobs. Students interested in majoring in social work should request a social work faculty advisor and must make written application for acceptance into the major after completing SWK 150 (Social Work and Social Justice) with a grade of at least a B-. SWK 150 is a Core Social Science (SOCS) course so if students are not sure about the Social Work major/profession, they are still able to fulfill a Core requirement by taking the SWK 150 course.
